  • In education a feedback mechanism refers to the process of providing students with information about the performance, progress and understanding of concepts or skills. This information is typically provided by teachers, peers or even through self assessment tools.

  • The purpose of feedback in education is to help students understand their strength and weakness, identify areas of development or improvement and guide their future learning effort

  • Feedback can take various forms including written comments, oral feedback grades, rubrics, constructive criticism and praise

Types of feedback feedback mechanism in education

  1. Teacher feedback

Feedback provided by the teacher through written comments, verbal discussion or assessment. This type of feedback can include specific comments on assignments, grade and suggestions for improvement

  1. Peer feedback

Feedback provided by peer observation or group members. Peer feedback encourages collaboration, communication and the development of critical evaluation skills. It can be given through peer reviews, group discussions or collaborative projects.

Students asses their own work progress and understanding of concepts. Self assessment encourages meta cognition, reflection and independence in learning. It can involve students evaluating their performance against criteria, setting goals and identifying areas of improvement.

Feedback provided at the end of a learning period or assessment to evaluate students overall performance and achievement. Summative feedback typically includes grades, scores and evaluation based on pre-determined criteria. It summarizes students accomplishments and provides an indication of their level of proficiency

Rubrics are scoring guides or criteria used to access students work. They provide clear expectations and standards for performance, making feedback more objective and consistent. Rubrics can be used by teachers, peers or students themselves to evaluate assignments ,projects or performance.

  1. Feedback forward

Feedback forward is a type of feedback that focus on guiding students future actions and learning. It anticipates potential challenges, offers suggestions for improvement and provide strategies for achieving desired outcomes. Feed forward help students plan and adjust their approach to learning effectively.
