Facts:

  •  Excavations have made it clear that all cultures flourished around river Basins.

  • Fertile soil, abundant water and pastures for livestock have a led to the comentration of human settlement in the river basins 

  • Egyptian civilization emerged on the river valley of the Nile in Egypt.

  • The King of Egypt was known as Pharaohs.

  • Egypt had a practice of keeping the dead body intact. A dead body in this way is also known as mummy.

  • The pyramids were tombs and mummies were preserved.

  • Agriculture was the Foundation of Egyptian Civilization.

  • The ancient Egyptians developed a writing system known as hieroglyphics which means sacred writing. They used to write on the leaves of papyrus plants.

Concept : Egyptian civilization grew in Egypt Nile Valley.  The pyramids, Pharaoh and fertile soil are the hallmarks of Egyptian civilization.

The teacher enters the class and establishes a good rapport with the learners. The teacher asks some questions to check the learners previous knowledge

 The teacher displays a paper cutting related to an excavation in Egypt for the discovery of a pyramid in the class.

Teacher display bronze metal (vessels)in front of the learners and record their responses. The metal bronze was used extensively during a period known as the Bronze age. During this period Egyptian culture existed. Teacher writes on the blackboard Egyptian civilization  and saying that we can clearly learn about it.

The teacher shows a video related to the richness of Nile's surroundings.

The teacher then divide the class into several groups and asks each group to find out the characteristics of the Nile river basin and why the Egyptian civilization flourished here.

 Activity 2


 Teacher presents  a model of the pyramid and the mummy and asks the learners to observe closely.

 Then the teacher shows the famous pyramids video to the class (Sphinix)

 The teacher monitor the video and the class. Asks the students to find the answer to the following question. Teacher divides the class into several groups 


  1. What do you mean by a pyramid?

  2. What do you mean by mummy?

  3. Explain the features of the pyramid?

  4. What are the things Egyptians put inside a pyramid?

  5. What do you mean by sphinx?

  6. What important aspects of Egyptian civilization do the construction of the pyramid reveal? 

 Consolidation 

  •  The pyramids are the tombs of the pharaoh.

  •  Mummies are the corpses of the Pharaoh.

  • Inside the mummies they kept clothes, coins, perfumes,  ornaments, servants, food grains etc.

  • Sphinx is a sculpture with the head of a man and the body of a lion.

  • The construction of a pyramid reveals they believe in life after death.

  • They were good at sculpture making
