→ The megalithic monuments and the ancient Tamil Songs belong to the same period


→ The region from Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh to Kanyakumari, including Kerala as well as, was called Tamilakam in Ancient period. 

→The ancient Tamil songs provide more information about the human life in ancient Tamilakam, and this collection of ancient Tamil songs is known as sanghom literature.


→Sangam literature is the most ancient among the available tamil literature and it is believed that there were compelled in the period between BCE 300 and CE 300.


→ Auvaiyar was a famous poet during the sangam period, and like Auvaiyar, there were several women poets during that period.


→Kapilar, Paranar, Mathurainakkeeran, Palais gauthama etc were the major poets of the period. 

→The ancient Tamil Songs are classified into Akam pattukal and Puram pattukal and the theme of Akampottukal is mainly personal, the Puram pattukal treat external affairs like war and trade.

Introduction

Teacher enters  the classroom and establishes a rapport. Then ask some questions to check out the previous knowledge.

  • What are the specialities of ancient Tamilakam?

  • What are megalithic monuments?

  • What is the use of literature?

  • How do we know about the ancient Tamilakam?


 The teacher receives the response of the pupils, then show a video clipping on an ancient Tamil song. Like this there are plenty of poets who lived in the ancient Tamilakam and they wrote many works. This literature are known as Sangam literature. Then the teacher writes the topic on the black board and enters the topic.


 Presentation

 Activity 1

 Showing a video which depicts the specialities of the people of ancient Tamilakam.

 Then the teacher divides the class into different  groups and ask them to find out the specialities of Sangam literature by analyzing the video.


 Consolidation

  • The earth,  the nature, abundance of natural resources,diet, ornaments,employment, beliefs of ancient Tamil etc in Sangam literature 

  • The poets Avvaiyar, Kapilar Paranar, Marutinakkiran were  there.


 Activity 2

 Teacher presents a chart which depicts the Sangam literature specialities.

 Then the teacher asks the students to find out the answers.
