  • The term 'pedagogue' is derived from two Greek words pais-paidos and agagos.
  • The term pais-paidos means  boy and agagos meaning guide.
  • which together means 'those who guide the boy' is the teacher.
  • Pedagogy means the science of teaching.
  •  Pedagogie analysis means a logical and systematic break up of the curriculum from the point of view of a pedagogue (teacher) for the purpose of effectively transacting it
  • It attempts at determining objectives and selection of suitable learning experiences.
  • It also aims at pooling of all the resources for the effective realisation of goals anticipated.
  • In pedagogic analysis, the teacher should take into consideration the unique needs and individuality of the learner.
  • In the curriculum analysis teacher should be viewed and treated in tune with the needs, capacities, probable difficulties, etc. of the learners for whom it is transacted.

  • Pedagogic analysis is highly complex, deeper, and have a thorough analysis of the curriculum in it's totality. Here the curriculum is conceived as the sum total of all learning experiences gained within and outside the class.

Objectives of Pedagogic analysis

1. To analyse the curricular content into meaningful components that constitute the curriculum in it's totality.

2. To identify appropriate content to be transacted as well as to set instructional objectives appropriate to each component of the content and the developmental level of the learners.

3. To identify the pre-requisites essentially needed for assimilating the curricular materials and learning experiences.

4. To identify appropriate inputs that might be required for effective curriculum transaction and to adopt strategies for pooling the inputs.

5. To design content and objective-based learning experiences  through which the inputs could be processed and objectives could be realised.

6. To locate difficulties and design strategies for remediation wherever needed.

7. To perform continuous and comprehensive evaluation leading to mastery learning

Scope of Pedagogic analysis

1. It forms an integral part of curriculum in all teacher education programmes.

2. It helps the teacher to set educational goals in accordance with the needs and abilities of the learner.

3. It provides the teacher deeper insight into the curricular material and enables him to plan curriculum transaction for realising maximum output.

4. It helps the teacher in pooling the resources required for effective instruction.

5. It enables the teacher to search for effective tools and techniques for continuous evaluation and to use the results of this evaluation for monitoring the instructional process.

Pedagogic analysis - How?

Pedagogic analysis is a very complex process which is to be done with skill and utmost care. Was far as objective based instruction is concerned, the pedagogic analysis should give more emphasis on realization of objectives.

1. A comprehensive and scientific content analysis:

First of all a thorough content analysis is to be done in order to find out the terms, facts, concepts principles, rules, processes, etc.

2. Determination of objectives:

The major instructional objectives as well as specific objectives to be realises in advance while analysing the curricular material. The specific anticipated behaviour should vary with the nature of the content as well as the developmental status of the learner.

3. Listing the pre-requisites:

Pre-requisites is necessary for assimilating the new  content or the unit.

4. Developing a pre-diagnostic test:

In order to locate the gaps in the pre-requisites among the learners, a pre-diagnostic test should be developed by the teacher as a part of the pedagogic analysis.

5. Preparing the list of inputs/ instructional aids:

Through pedagogical analysis teacher can prepare a list of instructional aids to meet the instructional objectives as well as to provide a rich learning experiences.

6. Processing the inputs:

It means the listed instructional aids can be implemented in accordance with suitable learning experience to attain the learning outcomes.

7. Suggestions for gathering immediate feedback and remediation:

Methods for collecting feedback from the students should also be decided in advance. Teacher can located the difficult areas in the concerned topic in advance so as to fix the remedial measures to solve it.

8. Determination of assignments and activities:

Assignments and activities to be provided as a part of the instruction should be decided in advance.

9. Developing the post diagnostic test:

A post diagnostic test should also be developed in advance. It can be in the form of a detailed summative evaluation tool.

10. Preparing achievement test

It is necessary to prepare an achievement test to identify the learners level of attainment. Pedagogical analysis helps to prepare it in the scientific manner.
